On some versions of Google Chrome it's possible that macOS has not given the screen recording permission to Google Chrome. This can block screen sharing access to video calling application such as Evidenced and Google Meet.

When attempting to screen share in Evidenced you may see this dialog:

If this happens, on your Mac you'll need to navigate to Security & Privacy > Screen Recording settings in your macOS System Preferences, and make sure Google Chrome in enabled. To open your macOS Screen Recording settings click here. For more detailed instructions, see below.

Detailed instructions

  1. Go to the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen.

  2. Select System Preferences.

  3. Select Security & Privacy.

  4. Click the lock icon at the bottom to make changes.

  5. Enter your password to unlock.

  6. Find the Screen Recording option under the Privacy tab.

  7. If you do not see Google Chrome in the screen recording section, click the plus icon and select Google Chrome from your applications folder, and then click Open.

  8. If Google Chrome is already checked, uncheck and then recheck the box.

  9. If Google Chrome is not already checked, check the box.

  10. Click the lock icon to prevent further changes.

  11. Quit and reopen Google Chrome. Make sure you fully quit Google Chrome for the changes to take effect:

    1. Quit Chrome and reopen it:

      • Mac: Hold ⌘ + q.

      • Windows: Hold Ctrl + q.

    2. Tip: You can reopen any tabs that were open before:

      • Mac: Press ⌘ + Shift+ t.

      • Windows: Press Ctrl + Shift + t.

You should now be able to return to your Evidenced interview and share your screen as normal.
